Resume & job description match
Match your resume to a specific job
One resume rarely fits every role. Comparing it with a job description shows which of the employer’s keywords you already cover and which you do not, so you can tailor the wording — honestly — before you apply.

How to tailor a resume without inventing experience
- Read the posting for requirements, not decoration. Highlight the skills and responsibilities that appear more than once or in the “requirements” list.
- Map them to real evidence. For each requirement, find a project, role or result of yours that genuinely shows it.
- Reuse the employer’s wording where it is accurate. “Managed vendor relationships” and “worked with suppliers” may describe the same work; use the version the posting uses.
- Lead with relevance. Reorder bullets so the most relevant achievements come first.
- Leave gaps as gaps. If you lack a requirement, do not claim it. Emphasise adjacent strengths instead.
Keep a separate copy per application so you can see what you changed. In Rolefora, a tailored copy is created from your reusable resume modules and your original stays untouched.
What a match result tells you — and what it does not
A match result is a comparison of wording. High overlap means your resume already uses the language the posting uses; low overlap means either you are missing relevant experience or you describe it in different words. Only you can tell which, which is why Rolefora shows matched and missing keywords separately instead of a single verdict.
It does not know how the employer screens applications, whether the role is still open, or how many people applied. Two applicants with the same score can be treated very differently, so use the result to improve your document and then rely on the strength of your actual experience.
A practical workflow for each application
- Save the job description when you find the role, before it is taken down.
- Run a match and note the missing terms you can honestly claim.
- Edit a tailored copy of your resume — wording first, then ordering — and keep the original untouched.
- Re-run the match, send the application, and record it so you can follow up.
